To append data to an existing database

Hi, MySQL/Perl community members!
I need to append a new data file to an existing database regularly.
Using L'OAD DATA INFILE file.txt INTO TABLE table' gives me an error, "Duplicate entry '2' for key '1' " which I can't figure out what it means.
Can anybody help me?
The new data file will contain one or two thousand records. Thank you!
