MYQSL w/ PHP on 64 Bit RH Linux

I am having a difficult time getting a PHP connection on a newly configured 64 bit Linux machine.

MYSQL Server version: 4.0.24-standard
PHP Version:PHP 4.3.2 (cgi)

/usr/lib64/php4
