Hi,

I too get the same problem, I observe that I have
[mysql]
default-character-set=utf-8

and

[mysqld]
default-character-set=utf-8

for my windows XP sp2 machine, with mysql 4.1

I change these two line in my.ini file to

default-character-set=latin1

and problem is solved
