Error when trying to configure PHP to work with MySQL

Hi,

I searched this forum and around the internet and the only material related to this error has not resolved my problem. Any help is very much appreciated.

I am trying to install MySQL and PHP using the following tutorial:

http://www.bicubica.com/apache-php-mysql/index.php

Everything worked as expected up until I tried to test the MySQL (#6 under Configuring PHP to work with MySQL). When I go to http://localhost/mysql_test.php I get the following error message:

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\mysql_test.php on line 9"

Any ideas why this would happen? What information can I provide that would make resolution easier?

Thank you!

Jennifer.
