Hah! Finally! After poring through every detail of the other post Peter answered, I thought I'd found everything...apparently mis-read or skimmed that part too fast, because I had "libmysql.dll" in c:\php5 ... needed to copy it to "c:\apache\bin" as well!
Thanks for posting this worked for you. It worked for me, too. I've used LAMP and WAMP setups for years and this is the first time I had to do that! (I stay a couple verisons behind to keep my setup similar to my conservative, safety-conscious web-hosting company.)
