Problem Connection between PHP and MYSQL

Dear Forum,

Anyone can help me please...

I have installed apache 2.05 and PHP4 and MYSQL 5.0, i set up them and i have no problem when try to execute php script. But when I try to have connection with MYSQL from PHP, I have connection error message in the connection method. Please anyone can give me a good method for calling MYSQL database??? (for information I connect my apache server to PHP via CGI). Thanks a lot.
