new MySQLi connector won't work

The new MySQLi connecter (5.0.20) doesnt work with php 5.1.2

It loads without warnings. But all phpinfo() and all scripts say the MySQLi extension is missing. The Mysqli connecter 5.0.18 worked perfect.

What Am I doing wrong?
