So basically the answer is NO!

Looks like I'll just start mysqld in the background so that when the browser loads the PHP pages Mysql server will be ready to accept connections.

If you're wondering what I am making have a look at Viewer for PHP (http://viewerforphp.sourceforge.net/), its open source. Enabling SQLite funcationality was easy but not so easy with MySQL. I think MySQL is a must if I want to make this a killer project!

Of course, I prefer embedded mysql so that so that it loads silently in the background.
