Data overflow error with MySQLODBC

I have been testing the MySQLODBC driver with plans to migrate our databases from MS SQL Server 2000 to MySQL. When I use DTS to export from MS SQL to MySQL, I receive an Insert error "status 6, Data overflow" for any of the varchar datatypes. int and bigint datatypes transfer just fine. Ironically, when I use the NAVICAT for windows Import Wizard to try it in the other direction, I can import all the varchar data BUT NOT the int datatypes.

Any help anyone can provide would be most appreciated.

MySQL version 4.1.9-standard.
