FoxPro and MySQL

I am currently working with a group that uses SQL Server to manipulate data. They use stored procedures, or raw SQL commands. In reviewing the data requirements it is either extracting data from an existing database, or using an external file, loading it to the database and then performing the extractions.
three of the five team members have SQL experience, which limits the support they can give each other.
I was wondering two things:
1. It appears that FoxPro as a front end to SQL Server would allow less technical people to process jobs.
2. Rather then FoxPro front ending SQL Server, can MySQL be used in lieu of SQL server? worried about integrity of data, although I have heard that MySQL is equal to, or better then SQL Server.
