mySQL version issue?

hi,

i was wondering if anyone ever had problems with a sql version from a year ago to the current version with respect to generation of a totally new set of syntax and general errors?

- previous table structure came from a previous develper unnormalised.
- we had to add extra tables just to extract data
- new database lived on sql now-year-old version, now moved database to latest sql version
- all config files are correct.

could this be a my sql version problem? has anyone any idea about it?

thanks.
