Moving data from Microsoft SQL to MySQL

We have two servers running Microsoft Server 2003, one with Solarwinds Orion and the other with Microsoft SQL database. Orion uses SQL to store it's network management information. We would like to look at moving from Microsoft SQL to MySQL for various reasons, but one of them is possibly putting the MySQL database on one of our more robust Sun boxes or run it under Linux.

I've just found this forum and have just recenly downloaded MySQL. I would appriciate any information on where to go from here and how to go about getting the data converted and moved over to see if Solarwinds Orion will talk to MySQL.

Thanks in advanced.
