Creating a database schema

Hi,

I am a newby at mysql and have run into a brick wall! I have created a test database with no problem and am trying to set the schema. Nothing seems to work. I have an sql file that describes the schema. In an existing INFORMIX data base, there is an executable that creates and applies the schema:
dbaccess {dbname} {schema.sql}

can anyone help?
