where is my mysql.sock

More than once i lost my file mysql.sock.
I use linux fedora and it stay at /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock.
For Five times when i begin to use mysql, by activate the control center, or the administrator, or sun java studio creator appears an error. This error always have his origin in the fact that mysql.sock was lost.
I use locate, ls -a, but i always can't find it.
what can i do, and why hapens a thing like that.
