Multiple Schemas/Users Supported?

Curious to see if MySQL supports multiple schemas like Oracle and MS SQL Server. I have an application that references the database tables as database.schema.tablename.
Multiple instances of the application are to be installed on one physical machine (and, hopefully, running with one instance of MySQL with a separate database for each instance of the application).
Anyone has any information, please advise. . .
