BackupExec/Oracle to MySQL
I am getting ready to migrate a large part of my database functions to MySQL from my Veritas supported Oracle server and agent and was wondering what your recommendations were on how to backup an online MySQL database in a Windows Server 2003 environment using BackupExec?
I have been using MySQL for 6 years(In Mixed/various flavors of NT/2000/2003 environments and have had many restores in the test environment as well as a few in the production environment and all have worked using just normal flatfile backups without a lock through BackupExec. Sometimes I have had to use the bin/archive logs, but all seemed to work. However, the MySQL database was only used minimally and hardly ever during backups, with the conversion, it has the possibility of having the tables being updated when the backups are running.
Is this still the correct way to do this? Everything that I have read states mysqldump/mysqlhotcopy to a file and then let BackupExec back it up to the media. Any Suggestions??????
Thank you for your help,
Brandon
