& in varchar fields

Hello,
when I wanted to include a & character in an Oracle SQL script I wrote at the beginning of the script file:

set define off

and I didn't have to scape the & character in the script.

Is there any equivalente in MySQL scripts? Is any other mechanism used for getting the same?
