I was hoping that a ROWID column existed as well. I'm attempting to write a Java application like MySQL Administrator (actually more like TOAD). I can't allow my application to change the table structure, but if the table does not have a truly unique primary key I can't allow the user to edit data in a table view (JTable). In this case I'll be forced to populate the table view as read-only and prompt the user that they should add a primary key to the table.
