Using mySQL as a reprting database from Oracle

Hi:

We are looking at building a mySQL database to do a weekly extract from a large (500Gb+) Oracle database for reporting. We are currently using Oracle materialized views to aggregate data and have a set of materialized views with about 25 Gb of data and 6 Gb of index space.

So far, it looks like the only ways we have seen people move data between Oracle and MySQL are with file exports or simple perl scripts.

Hay anyone had experience moving large amounts of data between Oracle and mySQL? Any tricks we should know about? We also do Java development so that is a potential option...

The Oracle DB is on a Sun SunFire V490 and the mySQL database will be on a quad-processor Xeon running RedHat AS 4.

Thanks,

Rich
