getting setup, my plan

I have previous VB and MSSQL experience but now will be working on my own with a limited budget. I'm looking to get started learning whichever database strategy will allow me to work better, faster, cheaper in the long run.
I'm considering starting by setting up MS Access and using it for workflow analysis and perhaps 5 users with forms to input data. If I need to expand to using it online I would go with MYSQL as a back-end.
Does anybody see any problems that I might run up against?

I don't mind learning code if it will be the best long term.
