Slower than MS Access

We did a successful migration from MS Access to MySQL of the database related to our software designed in VB6. We configured all things related to MyODBC and MySQL Server. Our unique problem is the speed to get a recordset from a SQL query. A query posted to Access via ADO was really fast, but to MySQL with MyOBDB, it can take easily more than twice the time. We were surprised by this fact because MySQL should be much faster.

Can anyone explain this ?
