Migrate from AS400/DB2 to MySQL with MS Access97 Frontends

Hi!
I developed some MS Access 97 applications with AS400/DB2 as DBMS using the ODBC interface.
Now I have to migrate to another DB-System. I think MySQL is a good joice.
Can you give me information about the performance wen using MySQL as Backend accessing the Database with ODBC?
My Program is a System for a canteen citchen. The big Table with the orders has about 500.000 Tuples.
Can I have performance problems wen usig the ODBC Interface?
Can occur Problems by installing the ODBC driver?
Is the ODBC driver 100% stable?
