Re: Best Conversion Tool MSAccess to MySQL (FOUND)
Hello,
just in case this still interests anybody.
I have updated the initial list with some suggestions I had received as reply to this. Based on price and desired features, and after testing some of the demo versions available we have opted for DBSync which can do the initial migration, allows fine tuning of datatype conversions (i.e. bool to tinyint, yeye ...) and keeps the relations intact. It has a lot of features that I don't even understand yet.
A minor initial hick-up was that I initially could not convert data and relations in one go. Doing the whole process in 2 steps is fine: first the data, and then overloading the relations. In this process the converter did flag a few problems regarding normalization of my db. Once fixed, a complete conversion was possible in one go.
The conversion sessions can be saved and, if something was not quite right yet, you can edit the detail you missed the first time, and re-run. Of course I had to fix-up some of my msaccess tables, which had some data inconsistencies, but those were easy enough to track down through the log files.
The synchronization feature is also nice. Of course, one could do a fresh migration every day until all is debugged. But that would also involve the somewhat cumbersome re-generation and population of timestamps every time.
So far so good and rather content as of now.
Cheers
Ingo
