importing mysql data to access

I have just started using mysql as a matter of interest as I usually work with perl cgi scripts on an informix database. I installed mysql 4.1 server, myodbc 3.5 and MySql Administrator all of which function as intended and I have mysql server installed for use as a stand alone development machine. I have been attempting to import mysql tables into ms access. I have been able to imported mysql tables but find that only date information is displayed correctly while any text field contains the phrase "Long binary data" and not the actual data from the mysql table.
