Ok, I understand.
I have encountered a couple of cases where I had to do analysis on a modereately large volume of data. I was in no position to do the analysis on the serverside because it would burden other users.

As the analysis was ad-hoc (it was a special, serving a one-time purpose) and did not know on beforehand what I would be querying, having a local copy to play around with was just perfect.
