ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Bonjour chere mysqliens et mysqliennes,
Jái installé mysql 5.1 sur un serveur de mon entreprise ou je travaille et tout marchait sans probleme.mais un jour jái essaye de me connecter et subitement j'obtiens lérreur que voici:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Jái verifie dans tmp/ et le fichier mysql.sock n'existe pas.quand je tape mysqld_safe tout marche correctement mais il suffit que je me deconnecte de mon serveur pour que mysql ne marche plus...au secours jái besoin d'aide.dites moi ce que je peux faire, j'ai essaye tout ce que jai vu sur le net mais en vain..
tout aide serait tres tres apprecie.
