Problem mit binlog

Hallo!
Ich habe auf meinem Mysql-Server (5.1.37 unter ubuntu 9.10) das binlog aktiviert. Nachdem ich dann auch den appamor dazu überedet habe, den mysql das schreiben der binlog-files zu erlauben, funzt das auch eigentlich,
Mein Problem:
Er schreibt immer nur eine mysql-bin.1 - und in der mysql-bin.index schreibt er immer wieder die gleiche Datei als nächste binlog auf. (immer mysql-bin.1). Eigentlich müsste er doch hochzählen oder?
Ich habe die expire_log_days auf 20 stehen.
Wo kann ich da noch irgendwas einstellen??
