en general es bueno dividir en varias tablas pero verticalment, no horizontalmente.
A lo que me refiero es, si tenes una table que tiene:
username
password
activo
edad
primer nombre
apellido
telefono
direccion
ciudad
seria mejor tener por lo menos dos tables, una va a tener solamente
username
password
activo
userid
y la otra va a tener la otra information. y tambien una columna userid para que luego puedas hacer joins si es necesario.
no se cual sera el termino en espanol, pero en ingles es sharding, lo puedes buscar en google para ver mas information al respecto.
