Re: Migrating from Ingres to MySQL
Hi Elisa
It all depends on what kind of data you have in your database, and in which way you wish to communicate with it.
I've tried to migrate an old database on Ingres 6.4 to MySQL a few years ago, and that went quite smooth.
However, the software I use is compiled to communicate with Ingres directly, so I chose to upgrade the server to the latest (at that time) Ingres II 2.6
This could also be a problem, depending on how your data is stored, but with only text and numeric tables, everything went OK, and my old software communicates happily with newer Ingres versions.
On another machine, I've installed Ingres 2006 and I am using ingres net to and the ingres php module to create web-based GUI and queries to the ingres database, so other software can retrieve the information.
I guess the best thing for me would be if anyone made a ingres net connector for mysql, but I believe that would have to translate the different dialects of SQL, so it would probably be difficult to know if you have it all.
Hope this helps.
