remote CSV creation

I cannot believe how difficult it is to create a local csv file from a query to a remote server. Why can't I use "fields terminated by" and "lines terminated by" and pipe a mysqldump result set to a file? It just assumes that I want an OUTPUT file... and it puts the file on the remote server's file system... which I have no access to. So instead of a command-line transformation that I can then easily import into my application, I have to do some really awkward stuff to get it in there.

Does anyone else think this is dumb?
