Unicode chars getting question mark - ??? while in migration from MS Access

HI,
Migration Toolkit version :1.1.17

I have a access Db ..that has unicode text data in text fields.that field size is 50.
now when i migrate that ms-acess db to mySQL using migration tool it migrated question marks - ??? insted of actual data for unicode-japanese chars.
i specified following parameters:
Migration of type Schema:
Migration method :generic
parameters :multilanguage
charset=utf8, collation=utf8_general_ci
Migration of type Table:
Data Consitancy/multilanguage

is there any thing else i need to taken care ? or i need to change any setting in server configuration ?
