Time efficient method to migrate MySQL 5.1 to 5.6 from Solaris to Linux

Hi,

We have a 500GB MySQL 5.1 database (single schema) on Solaris server. We've been having performance issues for quite some time already. We want to move database from Solaris to Linux so that we can have a better hardware platform; at the same time, we also want to upgrade MySQL from 5.1 to 5.6.

The maintenance window we will get is about few hours, we will need to migrate MySQL to different hardware and OS platform and setup a remote master-master replication server.

Our initial test of importing 500GB database on a so-so linux server took about 2 days.

I am wondering if someone knows other time efficient method for this kind of data migration, other than the simple dump/import method.

Thanks.
