Position Details
Client: Fortune 500 payment technology co. (Direct client)
Project Location: Foster City, CA
Role: MySQL Consultant
Project Duration: 12 months

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
o Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems
o Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions
o Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
o Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations
o Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems
o Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
o Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information

Requirement
o 5+ years hands-on experience with MySQL, with detailed understanding of internals, specifically MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines, Replication and Partitioning
o GoldenGate replication
o Experience with BACKUP for MYSQL databases
o Experience with MySQL 5.0, 5.1 and 5.5 major releases
o Bachelor degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent
o Extremely honed problem-solving and debugging ability
o Proficiency in BASH scripting (must have) and one of Perl/Python/PHP
o Familiarity with regular expressions for pattern matching and replacement
o Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP concepts
o MySQL Certifications valued, but not required
o Understanding of Java, MySQL Connector/J and Hibernate concepts
o Understanding of Hadoop and Map/Reduce concepts
o Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills
o Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time
o Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback
o Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software
o Strong knowledge of computer software, such as SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, etc
