Senior Practice Manager-SME

JOB DESCRIPTION:

MySQL SME specialized in High Availability Architecture and Design to work closely with a Federal Database Services team managing and developing a mission critical, large-scale system for business operations across a broad array of areas. This system will be providing an application instance of a large-scale Java J2EE JBoss environment as an open source entity with a MySQL database, to manage and monitor the business information of the enterprise. The MySQL/Database Administrator Specialist will need to have expert knowledge of MySQL, large-scale business systems, a working knowledge of Oracle and Java J2EE JBoss, expertise in management of an OLTP type information system with a master-slave design, with semi-sync and MHA, in an HMS server configuration with MMR clusters. Specific tasks include: Examining and Analyzing High Availability needs and requirements, developing and providing Design and Implementation reports to support HA requirements. Providing recommendations on how to implement solutions that meet HA requirements based on client’s needs considering industry best practices with justifications and steps to implement recommendations. Serving as an Expert Advisor to the Government to present MySQL Solutions to support a large mission critical environment and providing knowledge transfer.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: (must be measurable; must be objective, non-comparative and relevant to performance; must be about ability and not willingness)

• Education: B.A. or B.S. degree
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in providing database administration services
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in supporting MySQL at a senior or SME level
• US Citizenship required.
• Expert with MySQL and Database Administration in a large, highly available environment
• Working knowledge of Oracle MySQL technologies (Oracle Fabric) and Percona
• RDBMS experience working in a high volume production environment
• Extensive Experience setting up MySQL clusters, MySQL replication (Master-Master, Master-Slave, cluster replication), MySQL backup, point in time recovery, and high available configurations in a complex and dynamic production environment including experience with:
o Experience with F5 Load Balancers
o Experience with PHPO
o Experience with Oracle MySQL monitor
o Experience with MySQL Development
o MySQL Sharding Implementations
• LINUX expertise
• Solid knowledge of physical and logical database design
• Solid knowledge in schema design principles with demonstrated aptitude to apply best practices for scalable designs
• Experience establishing DBA standards and best practices for MySQL
• Ability to communicate with developers and help steer/influence development for optimal performance
• Subject matter expert who can inform and mentor existing team DBAs on MySQL
• Ability to convey how MySQL relates to the overall enterprise system
• Ability to identify and recommend tools and services for managing database infrastructure in all environments
• Knowledge of hardware sizing and tuning requirements for database loads based on efficient use of multiple resources
• Expert on updating and tuning MySQL instances in a high volume environment
• Responsible for the maintenance of the database, including backup, recovery, and disaster recovery management
• Proficient writing scripts for maintenance and automation purposes
• Strong communication skills and ability to add expert recommendations on architecture/design decisions that will ensure optimal application performance with MySQL


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (nice to have skills or experience but does not disqualify a candidate)

• Knowledge of USPTO mission and technical infrastructure.
• Java and Oracle experience and knowledge and ability to compare and contrast Oracle and MySQL systems
• Consistent network and I/O performance tuning
Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Normal office environment. Off hour support may be required to support operational requirements.
