Position: Senior MySQL Application Database Architect
Location: New York city, NY
Type: Full time
Salary: Negotiable

My client is hiring a Senior MySQL Application Database Architect to work closely with application teams to optimize database performance, automate operations and define database best practices. In this role, you will be responsible for the performance, tuning, scripting and scalability for all the production databases supporting our APIs and production applications.


About the job:

Work closely with our application teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, define and implement database best practices
Write well designed, testable, efficient database queries, code, and scripts
Understand the full system architecture, review application data models and make recommendations for improving overall data architecture
Provide data modeling solutions by designing and maintaining new logical and physical data models.
Implement schema changes, thoroughly testing DDL scripts, including scripts to rollback changes, and apply schema changes to production
Plan detailed deployments with database and software engineers that use advanced techniques to minimize or eliminate downtime when making schema changes
Responsible for 24x7 uptime of our application databases including planning zero downtime database upgrades and maintaining database SLAs
Timely interaction with software engineering and DBA teams in order to understand their database requirements for new products or features
Execute full lifecycle software development practices and standard operating procedure
Use (primarily) MySQL and Postgres technology to power our high-volume, business-critical websites and systems
Evaluate new database technologies and tools to meet growing challenges

About your skills and experience:

Hands-on experience with:
Database monitoring tools and best practices
Large production database clusters
Designing relational schemas and indexing.
Strong knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the software development field
Ability to work effectively in a coordinating role across multiple disciplines with a collaborative work style and customer-service orientation and an ability to translate business goals into information management requirements
Ability to own and make key technical and organizational decisions
Demonstrated creative problem-solving abilities with an ability to generate ideas for improving systems and processes
Effective with time management and an ability to manage competing priorities and requests
Supports and maintains positive attitude and vision with peers, associates, and management
Strong attention to detail with an ability to follow-up and follow-through on project actions and tasks
Ability to produce clean, well-documented, efficient, and standards-compliant code - with an eye towards performance optimization
Excellent written and oral communication skills
