Description
This person will play a prominent role in the gifts.com technology department, serving as the primary database administrator and architect of the MYSQL database.
Key responsibilities include
· Work with software developers to develop database and system architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures. Ensure SQL queries are optimally tuned for a high-traffic internet site.
· Monitor database performance, error logs, and table size of production environment. Diagnose and resolve any issues.
· Configure and support replication and disaster recovery processes.
· Support internal reporting needs, including supporting an internal reporting tool written in PHP, and generating data to support monthly billing.
Candidates must possess
· 3+ years of database administration in a high-traffic internet environment.
· Strong knowledge of MySQL administration, including replication. Experience with database performance monitoring, database backup and recovery procedures, and database security
· Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
· Strong understanding of relational database development and design
· Expert-level SQL skills
· Basic understanding of web technologies / architecture.
· Strong linux/unix knowledge, including shell scripting and basic system administration skills.
· PHP and/or Java programming skills a strong plus
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-moving, always changing environment
· BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
