I'm wondering why partitioning doesn't work. Is that because there is one "memory pool" that gets locked for each write/update operation (so when value is inserted all the memory tables are locked?).
Maybe there is some concurrency problem? Did maybe someone tried a FIFO buffer in form of a NON-BLOCKING proxy that takes INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE ops and executes them one-by-one?
