Where are you (Cacti) getting the table size? SHOW TABLE STATUS?
Is it ENGINE=MEMORY?
Do you have "huge_pages" turned on? (Perhaps relevant only to InnoDB.)

Please elaborate.
How busy are your CPU(s)? (That will lead to questioning whether to use MEMORY at all.)
What INDEX(es) do you have on the table(s)? (SHOW CREATE TABLE)
