I believe what you are saying is true and will probably fix this problem as
the tables are obviously different. I believe
the .frm and .myi files are different. Although this is not a show stopper
for me but it will prolong my upgrade as I planned on upgrading my replicated servers
and a clone copy with 5.0 and leave the master as 4.1 and see how it goes. Now
i'll keep testing the 5.0 on my test servers and move everything at one time.
