When I here of someone asking about SQL Cursors, I envision a programmer who has not learned the power of SQL.

Most (not all) uses of Cursors can be eliminated by formulating a single SQL that does all the work "all at once" rather than iterating through code.

If you would like to show use the SQL loop, and SHOW CREATE TABLE, we may be able to help you make it better -- thereby obviating the questions you posed.
