Poor design, atomicity failure. Store the prefix on one column, the numeric part in another.

Till you fix that ...

set @s = concat( "insert into ", 
                 @wagesyear, 
                 " (crewid) values( '", 
                 @crewid, 
                 ", ' )" 
               );
