I'm not sure what the problem was, but I dropped the stored procedure and then added it again using Workbench (which I had used originally to create the procedure). I copied the procedure name, parameters, and body into the framework Workbench created and ran it. This appears to work.

Thanks to Peter Brawley for his comment. Workbench auto-creates the DELIMITER
statement (and a few other things).
