Yes this is very true, the problem with MySQL 5.x is that it's playing catch up to things like Oracle and MsSQL. Therefore we all know what triggers can do and how powerfull they can be and it's a little frustrating when you know how close they are to being really functional but just miss the mark.

I'll be keeping a lookout for the book, looks like you have addressed all the things I think are lacking in books and in general about MySQL development. It's also clear from your answers on here that you know what you talking about so thats a good sign the book will be equally useful.
