Inserting data into fields using field names other than the actual ones

Hi,

We recently have changed the names of a number of fields for one of our sw but a particular user wants to revert to the old names. Is they a way in MYSQL (via triggers,...) to get it to grab calls to these field names (which won't exist for his system) and update the fields with the old names?

I'd be grateful if you could help.-
