https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=11472 says "major development work needed to fix this issue".

Presumably Enterprise users have complained. And MariaDB with either InnoDB or XtraDB has the same bug.

So the problem must expose a core architectural problem in MySQL. It might be unrealistic to expect a profit-oriented corporation like Oracle to go public with a straightforward explanation, but Monty's MariaDB outfit?
