Not clear ...
- midcity has only one attribute but "all elements of city table but population < 5000000 and population > 500000" ???
- a "trigger which makes certain think" ???
- does your midcity table copy some data from the city table? Very bad idea.
Try posting the CREATE TABLE statements for the two tables, a bit of sample data, and the complete logic of the desired trigger in ordinary English.
