MySql Problem

Hello I have installed mysql and a server and now have a big problem. I restarted computer due to a storm and now nothing but problems. On restart the server loads ok and tries to run the winmysqladmin, it appears to run as it loads the mysqld-opt file ok. But I never get a greend light and I loose my localhost and internet completely. If I end task of the winmysqladmin everything runs good but no streetlight symbol in the task bar. When I first installed mysql I put in a name and password , it never asks me for in even if it try to start winmysqladmin on my own. HOw do I make this thing work good/ proper?

I am running windows 98 2nd edition
