Backups with ntbackup (W2K3 Server) under no load

Just purchased an application that uses mysql on Windows Server 2003. Currently 4.0.18-nt, but an upgrade coming, so expect 4.1.x shortly.

Would like to backup the entire system to DDS-5 tape each night.

System will not be under load at night, except possibly some queries that I run via a Terminal Server session, without any writes.

ntbackup under W2K3S uses volume shadow copy service for open files. No ntbackup agent for mysql, but would a system backup reliably backup the mysql data directory if there was no activity other than (occasional) queries, with no table writes?

If not, was considering a batch file to perhaps pipe mysqldump results to ntbackup, then append a backup of system state and entire system (except mysql data directory contents) to the tape.

Thanks,

David P. Lurie
