Hi all,
I am using SLED-11 (32 bit). I just download MySQL-client-5.1.35-0.glibc23.i386.rpm & MySQL-server-5.1.35-0.glibc23.i386.rpm from mysql site & install from "install software" option & it shows successfully installition message, but whenever type "mysql" command from gnome terminal it shows the following message
"ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
"
please help me.
one thing, before installation i remove all mysql related packages from "Software Management". Another thing is that in past i already use mysql 5.1 on SLED-11 (install from glibc23.i386.rpm sources & its running well but in last 2 days my system update a package from SLED update & after that update when i connect to the server from gnome terminal the above error message shows & for that reason i remove all mysql related packages & reinstall them)

When i install server from command line using "rpm -i MySQL-server-5.1.37-0.glibc23.i386.rpm"

the following error message occur
"insserv: Script jexec is broken: incomplete LSB comment.
insserv: missing `Required-Stop:' entry: please add even if empty.

Installation of system tables failed! Examine the logs in
/var/lib/mysql for more information.

You can try to start the mysqld daemon with:

shell> /usr/sbin/mysqld --skip-grant &

and use the command line tool /usr/bin/mysql
to connect to the mysql database and look at the grant tables:

shell> /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql
mysql> show tables

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in /var/lib/mysql that may be helpful.

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com/. Please consult the MySQL manual section
'Problems running mysql_install_db', and the manual section that
describes problems on your OS. Another information source are the
MySQL email archives available at http://lists.mysql.com/.

Please check all of the above before mailing us! And remember, if
you do mail us, you MUST use the /usr/bin/mysqlbug script!

Starting MySQL.Manager of pid-file quit without updating file. failed"
