What type of network connection does Parallels have?
Does it share the Mac OS ip address or does it have it's own?
If it has it's own, then the MySQL sever will need user@parallels_ip enabled as a user, and any firewall between MacOS and Parallel will need port 3306 opened for TCP traffic.
